Session 2
Land ho!

Present: Krys, Charles, Ace
Absent: Clarice

Following the brutal storm, Krys slept for almost two full days. She woke up and went searching for food. She found herself in a debate with Charles which resulted in a challenge to a duel. The two proceeded to the deck with rapiers and set the terms; an honorable duel with information on the line.

The two found themselves well matched. Ace acted as a bookie and collected bets from the gathered crowd, riling them up in favor of Charles. Krys took advantage of the rigging on the ship to gain a height advantage while Charles used biting insults to gain a psychological edge. A few minor scrapes were exchanged, but the siblings’ skills seemed to complement each other perfectly.

Krys resorted to dirty tricks, angering Charles at her lack of honor. Ace was angered as well and attempted to trip, distract, and set the crowd against Krys. In spite of her unorthodox techniques, Krys ended up against the rail with a gashed arm in obvious defeat to Charles. Charles, however, surprised the crowd by conceding the fight at this point instead, thus declaring Krys the winner. The crowd, egged on by Ace rebelled and threatened to throw Krys overboard. She and Charles, however, managed to escape the crowd to below decks where Charles bandaged Krys’ wound.

The next morning, the cry of “Land ho!” could be heard across the ship; Krys immediately jumped overboard to swim to land, Ace hid in the first longboat, and Charles used his status to insist on being on that board. The first of the crew to land quickly realized that the storm had blown them farther off course than they anticipated, and no one had any idea where they were. This didn’t slow down Ace who insisted to the rest of his friends that they go exploring into the hot jungle. He “selected” some supplies for the group to use, and off they went.

The thin band of jungle between the beach and the desert hills were full of all manners of unfamiliar flora and fauna. The desert, dotted with patches of lushness and shade, carried even more. The weirdest discovery of all, however, was an advanced tribe living in a city carved deep within the mountains.

The group entered a busy marketplace, surrounded by people buying and selling strange goods, speaking in a tongue they did not understand. Ace split from the group and made friends with a band of children playing in the streets. Charles and Krys, in the mean time, met a man at one of the shops. After discovering the language barrier, the man bought them each elixirs for speaking and understanding the language. Ace managed to get ahold of the elixirs intended for Charles. Krys sold some of her British coins to a junk dealer in exchange for the local currency and used it to buy new elixirs of language for Charles. her harsh manners towards the Mystery Man at the shop almost resulted in her being given a less beneficial elixir.

All three learned that the Mystery Men, who dress in armor-like metal garments, are the only ones with the knowledge to create elixirs. The process to gain this knowledge is very long and arduous. As a result, Mystery Men are rare and their goods are very popular. The three newcomers are subject to many stares from the locals who find their manner of dress incredibly odd. The children who Ace has befriended poke at him in order to learn more. One pokes Ace’s upper arm causing Ace to cry out in pain. This gets Charles’ attention who attempts to ask Ace about it. Ace refuses to tell Charles what happened, but does give him permission to look at his arm when the streets are quieter.

Armed with their new use of language, Krys and Charles learn that their guide’s name is Walamu and Ace learns his new friend, a young boy of aproximately 5 years, is named Iamu. Walamu offer Krys and Charles a place to sleep with his family, but the pair declines and instead ask to be shown to the guest house. Ace sells a large amount of British coins for the local currency, learning that there are at least two values, 1 and 25, of coin. He uses some of his money to buy clothing to be able to fit in with the crowd. He finds a secluded place to sleep for the night.

Krys decides to go looking for trouble. She enters a tavern and picks a fight with someone in there. The citizens, she discovers, are quite peaceful as it was very difficult to start a fight. Regardless, she successfully instigates a bar brawl getting beat up in the process. She is thrown out of the bar practically into the lap of Charles who was walking by to return to Ace. Charles looks at Krys’ injuries but does not have the opportunity to bandage any before someone in the tavern emerges and informs Krys that, during the fight, she flipped a table and it landed on another patron who is critically injured. When she refuses to see to his treatment, Krys is told under no uncertain terms that she will heal him, even at the expense of herself. A runner takes a bit of her blood and sprints to the Mystery Men.

Ace witnesses the runner approach the Mystery Men’s shop and ask for “Increase healing, increase strength, transfer healing, transfer strength”. The Mystery Man does not have all of the requested elixirs in stock but gives the runner what he has. The runner, followed by Ace, returns to the tavern and administers the elixirs to the victim who comes to shortly after. Charles leads Krys back to the guest house.

Wondering how to get started? Here are a few tips:

1. Invite your players

Invite them with either their email address or their Obsidian Portal username.

2. Edit your home page

Make a few changes to the home page and give people an idea of what your campaign is about. That will let people know you’re serious and not just playing with the system.

3. Choose a theme

If you want to set a specific mood for your campaign, we have several backgrounds to choose from. Accentuate it by creating a top banner image.

4. Create some NPCs

Characters form the core of every campaign, so take a few minutes to list out the major NPCs in your campaign.

A quick tip: The “+” icon in the top right of every section is how to add a new item, whether it’s a new character or adventure log post, or anything else.

5. Write your first Adventure Log post

The adventure log is where you list the sessions and adventures your party has been on, but for now, we suggest doing a very light “story so far” post. Just give a brief overview of what the party has done up to this point. After each future session, create a new post detailing that night’s adventures.

One final tip: Don’t stress about making your Obsidian Portal campaign look perfect. Instead, just make it work for you and your group. If everyone is having fun, then you’re using Obsidian Portal exactly as it was designed, even if your adventure log isn’t always up to date or your characters don’t all have portrait pictures.

Session 3

While Ace, Charles and Krys met the Mystery Men, Clarisse wandered around the marketplace, unable to understand the local language. She managed to communicate with body language to a fruit seller, who gave her one of the unfamiliar fruits as a sample. A woman approached her and offered help, leading Clarisse to a Mystery Man stall. She traded the fruit for help from them, which took the form of an elixir to understand the local language. Later, she caught up with Charles, and went back to the guest house for the night.

Charles tried to slip off in the middle of the night to check on Ace in his hidey-hole, but Clarisse followed him. When Charles’s attempts to bandage Ace’s wound were only serving to frighten Ace, Clarisse revealed herself to comfort him. As Ace’s bleeding grew worse, Charles sent her to fetch help. She went to the closest Mystery Man stall, and knocked on the door for help. An apprentice gave her an elixir, with the understanding that payment would be given as soon as possible. Ace improved after taking the elixir, and Charles used some coins from the coin purse he liberated from Krys to pay for it the next morning.

Krys, Ace, and Clarisse went out of the mountain the next day to complete the tasks Ace had received from the Mystery Men – locating and returning with salt and smoke melons. Ace and Clarisse decided to go up the rocky slopes to look for salt, and Krys decided not to follow. She went back towards the ship, and ended up dueling monkeys while watching out for a group of the newcomers. Meanwhile, Ace and Clarisse found the salt to be in the mines near the base of the mountain, and the smoke melons to be on the beach. The pair gathered the materials, and learned of the salt miners, those apprentices who had not followed the prescribed methods taught by the Mystery Men.

Upon returning to the mountain, Krys found she could no longer speak or understand the native language, to the bafflement of the locals. The elixirs normally do not stop working unless another elixir is consumed. She obtained replacements for herself and the group from the ship. Ace and Clarisse were last seen speaking to the Mystery Men after Ace hurt his head while playing and the bleeding would not stop. Krys revisited the bar where she got into trouble, and was questioned about why her wounds stopped bleeding.

Session 5: The Undercity
...good thing Charles isn't with us

Krys met up With Clarisse and Ace in the guest house, where they figured out their plan for the day. Charles was off doing something with setting up his market stall or gambling, probably gambling. The trio decided to explore a rumor they had discovered. They had heard whispers of The Undercity, and wanted to check it out. Well Krys and Ace did, and Clarisse had no objections.
Ace had one of his friends lead the way to the entrance to the Undercity and the trio went down what seemed to be a service entrance. Clarisse going down the stairs and Ace and Krys swinging down a rope. Upon reaching the bottom, they were stopped by a rusty gate. Ace was able to get through the bars, but the girls were too big. Krys had the brilliant idea to kick down the gate. She kicked it once and then Clarisse stepped up and sent the gate flying off the hinges.
After following the man who came to see what the commotion was, they realized just how dark is was down here. The group found a market, Ace and Clarisse keeping to the shadows, while Krys was strutting around like she owned the place. After one of the residents of the Undercity attempted to pickpocket her, she unleashed her own brand of pirate justice and shot the woman in the ass after she began to flee.
The trio eventually found a stall that was selling elixirs which they decided to send Clarisse to by herself. She was accused of stealing from someone and Krys came to her aid. They dispatched the man, looted the corpse and decided to talk to the owner of the stall. After getting some information about some of the more, unique denizens of the Undercity, tipped him for his info and received some elixirs to help them see in the Undercity. They met with a few of Ace’s friends and left them with promises of helping them escape on their trip down here.
When they were making their way back to the MIddlecity, there were guards and repairmen at the gate. Ace, up to his usual tricks, threw some rocks to distract them. One guard was distracted but the second saw where the rock came from, and found where the group was hiding. Krys started fighting him, but couldn’t score a hit. Ace threw a dagger and it nailed the guard in the jugular, killing him. The trio made their escape, after Ace collected his dagger, by climbing up the rope.
Getting back to the Middlecity, the light was so bright they were nearly crippled. Krys placed her hat on Clarisse’s head, and told Ace to fashion himself a bandanna to block the light, since she’s dealt with harsh sunglare on the seas before, and started to lead them back to the guest house.
On the way, Yaw spotted them, mistaking Clarisse for Krys at first due to the hat. Krys spoke up, telling the others to get back to the room. She gave a quick story to Yaw to get him to help her. After getting some elixirs from him, and with promises to see him later that night, Krys left and ran to a Mystery Man Stall to get the same elixirs for Ace an Clarisse.
When she reached the guest house, she found Ace staring at his hands and Clarisse trying to comfort him. She passed out the potions, Clarisse taking the Neutralizer right away. Krys persuaded Ace to take it as well, and then set about figuring out what was wrong.
After helping him drink the other two elixirs, Speaking and Understanding, she told him the story of her first time killing someone, after which, she had a lap full of Ace, arms wrapped around her while he cried. Clarisse joined them on the floor in a group hug and then stayed there helping to comfort Ace.

And that’s when Charles walks in….

Session 6: A Duel For Honor!
... Sort of....

A new day found Charles, Clarrise, Ace and Yaw heading back to Governor Kent’s office to retrieve Krys. When they got there, they were shocked to see Krys bruised and bloodied. Outraged, Charles challenged Kent to a duel. Charles eventually had to surrender, at Krys’s request, because Kent’s champion was using a poisoned blade. Kent decreed, as the victor, that ‘Charles of the house Essex no longer had any claim to power in the new land.’ Krys had been brought into the shade by Yaw so she wasn’t around. The group headed back to the natives and went their separate ways. Krys got a healing elixir but her nausea wasn’t going away. After going to the Mystery Men to try and figure it out, she came back with a very large secret…

Session 8: You Said to Get a Ring

The morning after the trip down into the salt mines, Krys woke up to discover she had miscarried her child. Clarisse walked in on Krys telling Charles, and she went to the Mystery Men to buy healing elixirs. She returned with four regular healing elixirs and one for emotional healing, offering one of each to Krys, who took only the regular healing version. Krys left the house, despite Charles’s protests. He tried to sneak out of the house in pursuit, sending Clarisse to get him a pillow, but the sound of Charles trying to be stealthy with a broken leg alerted her. The two ended up going after Krys together, with Charles in a pushcart. They found Krys crying in Nama’s stall, afraid of Yaw’s reaction, and Nama took the three back to Yaw’s house, where Yaw proposed to Krys with an enormous carved stone ring. She accepted, and it was decided the wedding would wait until Charles heals.

The next morning, the group was awoken by screecher monkeys. Krys shot the remaining two and threw them into the street. The bodies ended up in a container near the house, where they attracted another group of monkeys. Krys ended up using a makeshift explosive to kill the ‘bloody monkeys.’ An old lady walking by ended up taking the monkey corpses as she knew someone who would want the meat, giving the group another connection to the Undercity.
